At the MAF hangar with passengers ready to take off. Image rolls over to Terry and Jo ready to depart Port au Prince for a work day at W.I.S.H. Foundation on La Gonave, 20 minutes away. MAF owns and operates the airstrip on the island, ferrying doctors and equipment for the hospital and for other organizations.
From the plane, a view of Haiti...and roll-over to our first view of La Gonave Island
We leave the coast for the hospital.
Roll mouse over to see the sights and Terry in the 3transport vehicle 4

Much of La Gonave was forested in mahogany, long ago exported. Now the island is denuded except where replanted behind gates and fences.
Truly beautiful, parts of La Gonave reminded me of what Bermuda probably looked like a century ago, with bougainvillea and hibiscus everywhere.

While Terry worked, I had a wonderful tour of thehospital with Donna Doan and enjoyed the practical solutions that I saw which enabled the hospital to function with family support. Cooking and laundry are the family's responsibility, washing is done on premises by hand and hung on fences to dry in the sun, meals are prepared on charcoal braziers in a small building just outside the patient's rooms.
I
loved the conch shells lined up like dragon's teeth along the fences.

A last view of the beautiful island as we depart..
W.I.S.H. Foundation has a small dental clinic. They would provide housing for a dentist (and family) to come to La Gonave to do a short-term mission.
Prerequisites: Would have to enjoy lobster, scuba & snorkeling in Caribbean waters and meeting some wonderful people.......
